University of Reading

About:

The University of Reading is a research-intensive institution internationally recognised for excellence in food, agriculture and animal science. In the UK Research Excellence Framework 2021, 86% of its research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent. With over 27,000 students and 4,500 staff from more than 160 countries, UREAD offers a highly international and interdisciplinary research environment spanning the entire food chain. The work in its School of Agriculture, Policy and Development advances sustainable livestock systems, nutrition and food quality through state-of-the-art facilities and strong national and global partnerships.

Activities in the project:

UREAD leads the development of practical, evidence-based nutritional protocols, translating findings from feeding trials into farmer-friendly guidance to mitigate emissions and heat stress. The University of Reading will implement small-scale in vivo feeding trials and contribute to validation activities of methane mitigation strategies, including their implications for animal performance, feed efficiency, and environmental impacts in dairy cattle production systems. The team will also support the development of low-emission and climate-resilient nutritional protocols and participate in Future Farming Design Studios, knowledge exchange, dissemination, and networking activities.
