About:

The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH) is one of the largest research organizations in Greece. It is a legal entity governed by private law with non-profit status, comprising five institutes organised based on research fields. The Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) is active in the field of Life Sciences, aiming to promote basic research, while providing solutions to important social needs related to human and animal health and well-being. In this context, INAB holds a leading position in Agri-biotechnology, utilizing modern high-performance methodologies, molecular biotechnology, and ‘breeding by design’ approaches, with the aim of developing high quality and value products, while also conducting Biomedical research and dealing with the development and evaluation of digital health interventions and personalized medicine. The main pillars of its activity are bioanalysis, data from the real world, and the development of relevant applications.

Role in the project:

CERTH is the coordinator of RUMINATE and is responsible for overall overview of the project. As part of the research activities, CERTH leads the effort for the development of Future Farming Solutions and is responsible for the development of the genetic panels for methane emissions in cattle and heat-stress resilience in sheep. Additionally,  it will perform genomic and microbiome analyses and identification of markers of interest. Moreover, it will investigate the interactions between animal genotype and environment as well as management and traits associations. CERTH’s team will also participate in Future Farming Design Studios and knowledge exchange and dissemination activities.
