About:
Ovis Cap Negru is a family-operated SME specialized in dairy sheep farming. His expertise covers flock management, extensively in animal breeding and genetics, animal welfare, carbon footprint in animal farms and resilience in harsh conditions. The main objective of the farm is to maintain the Teleorman Black Head sheep, in extensive harsh conditions from the southern part of Romania (Teleorman county). The farm has experience in collaboration with research institutes in research and development projects. Due to previous experience, the farm can support monitoring of animal welfare, health and productivity in harsh conditions and using carbon mitigation practices.
Role in the project:
Ovis Cap Negru will contribute to the testing and validation of nutritional and genomic strategies developed within the project by serving as a commercial demonstration site for in vivo trials in dairy sheep. The farm will support the implementation of experimental feeding protocols under real-world heat stress conditions, assist with phenotypic data collection, and facilitate blood and fecal sampling. It will also contribute to the demonstration of best practices for improving heat stress resilience.
