Vardarlı Assaf Farm is a family-operated SME specialized in dairy sheep farming, with expertise in flock management, welfare-milk recording, and precision livestock farming technologies. The farm maintains Assaf sheep under intensive conditions in the Thrace region and has prior experience in collaborating with research and development projects. The team is composed of trained professionals with backgrounds in animal science and veterinary practice. Equipped with a PLF flock management system, the farm can support real-time monitoring of animal welfare, health and productivity for demonstrating climate-resilient and low-emission livestock practices.
Role in the project:
Vardarlı Assaf Farm will contribute to the testing and validation of nutritional and genomic strategies developed within the project, by serving as a commercial demonstration site for in vivo trials on dairy sheep. The farm will collaborate by implementing experimental feeding protocols under real-world heat stress conditions, supporting phenotypic data collection, and facilitating blood and fecal sampling. It will also contribute in demonstrating best practices for heat stress resilience. The farm ensures practical relevance and stakeholder involvement by offering a real-use context and engaging in feedback loops with researchers.
